Smartphone Deals

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Photo: Samsung

This is a phenomenal price for a phenomenal phone (9/10, WIRED recommended† Yes, it has a 6.8-inch screen that makes it tricky to handle, but the 10x optical zoom camera more than makes up for it. This zoom camera allows you to take pictures of subjects that are quite far away but with spectacular image quality, a feature that is unmatched on any other phones sold in the US. Everything else is just as great, from fast performance and good battery life to a bright screen and even a stylus for taking notes. This is the lowest price we’ve ever tracked.

This is also the lowest price we’ve seen on the standard Galaxy S22 (9/10, WIRED recommended† It doesn’t have the fancy 10x optical zoom camera, but it still has a respectable three-camera system. The performance is just as good, the 6.1-inch screen feels so much nicer in the hand and the AMOLED screen is excellent. Samsung also offers some of the best software support: the S22 series gets four Android upgrades and 5 years of security updates.

Rounding out Samsung’s flagships, the S22+ (9/10, WIRED recommended) has a larger battery than the regular S22 (4,500 mAh vs. 3,700 mAh), can charge faster and has a larger screen. It may lack the 10x optical zoom and S Pen of the Ultra, but it’s an excellent middle ground between the S22 and the S22 Ultra.

Google’s most recent flagship, Pixel 6 Pro (9/10, WIRED recommended), has great performance, a great three-camera system and a great 120Hz AMOLED display – it’s pretty good. The fingerprint sensor doesn’t live up to those standards, but $200 off for Prime Day may ease any frustration there, putting the phone well below traditional flagship prices.

Samsung Galaxy A53

The Galaxy A53 (8/10, WIRED recommended) is a great alternative to Google A Series Pixel Phones† It often drops to $350, but this is the lowest price we’ve ever seen. you get a 120 Hz AMOLED display (almost unheard of at this price), over a day of battery life, good performance, a MicroSD card slot, NFC for contactless payments and five years of security updates.

The default Google Pixel 6 (9/10, WIRED recommended) is arguably the best phone on this list, especially at this price. If anything, it jeopardizes Google’s upcoming Pixel 6A† You get wireless charging, robust 5G support, good battery life and a 90Hz AMOLED display here. Google promises three Android upgrades and five years of security updates. You can find more information about Pixel phones in our Google Pixel Buying Guide

This OnePlus phone (7/10, WIRED recommended) does everything you’d expect from a flagship Android phone. It’s fast, has a crisp 120Hz screen refresh rate, and has a pretty good software support window. However, 5G support is missing. If you’re using AT&T, you can’t connect to 5G, only 4G LTE. The cameras are also still not as good as the Pixel 6 or Galaxy S22. If you have a good history with OnePlus phones, you will be happy with the 10 Pro.

This is the lowest price we’ve seen for the Pro model (8/10, WIRED recommended† The non-pro is too on sale for $500† These are last year’s OnePlus phones, but they’re still solid buys, especially at these discounted prices. The cameras are good and the rest of the hardware is excellent as usual, but it’s worth noting that you only get two more Android OS upgrades (they just got Android 12) and three years of security updates.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3

Foldable phones are cool, and the Flip3 (7/10, WIRED recommended) is a great option for anyone who thinks most phones are too big. It basically allows you to fold a phone in half, like a compact mirror. It has great performance and decent cameras, although the battery life can be hard to last an entire day.

This phone (7/10, WIRED recommended) takes many of the benefits of last year’s Galaxy S21 series and puts them in a more affordable package… well, now even more affordable with this deal. You get good performance, wireless charging, 5G support, a bright 120Hz AMOLED display and IP68 water resistance (not to mention the long software update cycle).

You should buy the Galaxy A53 5G above instead of this Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 unless you really want a stylus or lots of storage. It’s a great phone with sub-6 5G connectivity, a battery life of almost two days, good performance and 512 GB of storage (it comes with a 256 GB MicroSD card). But the screen is bland, the cameras are below par and it only gets one Android OS upgrade (albeit 3 years of security updates). Still, this is the lowest price it’s ever dropped, and a perfectly usable phone.

This may not be a huge discount on our top sub-$200 phone, but it’s the lowest price we’ve seen. The Moto G Power packs a massive 5,000mAh battery into one of the cheapest phones out there, for nearly three days of battery life. Sure there are a lot of trade-offs, including no 5G or contactless payments, but if you just need a phone that will last forever cheaply, this is the one to get.

Tablet Deals

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8

Photo: Samsung

I’ve been using Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 for a few months now and while it’s a really excellent Android tablet experience with most of the advanced features you’ll want, it’s hard to recommend in terms of suggested retail price. This price makes much more sense. The Tab S8 has an 11 inch LCD screen that is neither too small nor too large. It comes with a stylus that magnetically sticks to the back, is powerful enough to handle any app and game, and has great speakers.

Outside of Samsung, Lenovo is the second best manufacturer if you’re looking for a good Android tablet. This model can do almost anything just as well as Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8, with its 2K LCD display, slim build and quite powerful MediaTek chip. The disadvantage? It will get Android 12 and no other OS upgrade (it will get another year of security updates).

For cheap tablets, few do better than Amazon. This Fire HD 10 (7/10, WIRED recommended), now at half price, gives you easy access to Amazon’s ecosystem and the ability to do some basic productivity work. Battery life is good and there’s even a MicroSD card slot to increase storage. Read our Manual for Fire Tablet for more advice.

Nokia T20

Photo: Nokia

The T20 fixes the flaw of the P11 Plus: it gets two OS upgrades and three years of security updates. However, performance is a tad slower and the screen isn’t quite as nice. I still had no problems using it as my daily tablet, surfing the web and watching shows for weeks. It has previously fallen to $175, but this is still a good deal.

If the prices of Samsung’s flagship tablets are a little higher than you’d like to spend, the Tab S7 FE is a more wallet-friendly option. You get a roomy 12.4-inch LCD screen, one of the larger tablets available in this price range, and it even includes the S Pen stylus. Performance is just OK, but it’s a nice big slate to lounge with if you’re feeling lazy.

Amazon’s kid-friendly tablets are parent-friendly and price-wise too. This tablet comes with a worry-free two-year warranty, meaning if your kid breaks it, Amazon will replace it once, no questions asked. You also get a one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription to keep them entertained.

The 2nd generation Pixel Stand is a sturdy and effective charger. Place a Pixel phone on it and it will automatically turn your phone into a digital photo frame if you want to, and you can easily access Google Assistant and other smart home controls. Read more about this

The older generation Pixel Stand may not deliver as much power (up to 10W for Pixel phones) and so charges slower, but in some ways it’s a lot better. It’s more stylish, it still supports Pixel-exclusive features, it can charge phones in both portrait and landscape orientation, and best of all, it’s significantly cheaper. Doubly so at the moment.

This is a nice dual wireless charging system that allows you to charge your phone on the stand and a pair of wireless earbuds on the pad (or any other phone). The phone can be charged in both landscape and portrait orientation. It looks snazzy and the cable and charging adapter are included.

Do you love RGB lighting? you like this wireless charging station† It has a ring of LEDs at the base that you can customize via Razer’s Synapse software. Plug it into your PC and make sure your charger matches the rest of your gaming desktop setup.
