Emmanuel Onakoya, a 60-year-old security guard, has been charged with stealing a piano and plasma television from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Peculiar Parish, Ayobo, Lagos, where he works.
The suspect, who was brought before the Ikeja court on Thursday, July 7, was charged with committing the crime on June 19.
Prosecutor Insp Funmi Akinleye said the defendant told the pastor in charge of the church that thieves broke into the property when he was not there.
The pastor filed a police report after finding the allegation untrue. The magistrate, Ms OO Fajana, admitted that the defendant had paid bail of N100,000 with two securities in the same amount and adjourned until September 20.
