There are 8,728 new cases of Covid-19 in the community today and 26 more people have died from the disease, including three in the southern DHB area.
Today, 759 people with the virus are in hospital, 13 of whom are in intensive care. Thirty-seven of those people are in Southern hospitals.
The Department of Health says the seven-day moving average of community cases cases today is 8,913.
Covid deaths
The deaths reported today occurred in the period since April 26, the ministry said, bringing the total number of publicly reported deaths from Covid to 1954. The seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 26.
Three of today’s deaths were in South. Of the rest, five were from the Auckland area, two from Waikato, one from Bay of Plenty, one from Lakes, one from Tairāwhiti, one from Hawke’s Bay, two from MidCentral, two from Nelson Marlborough and eight were from Canterbury.
Two of these people were in their 60s, three were in their 70s, 10 were in their 80s, and 11 were over 90. Eighteen were women and eight were men.
