A lotto ticket found on the street is the only clue as to who crashed into Stevie Robb’s car last weekend.

An abandoned lotto ticket is the only clue to a woman who destroyed her car in an early morning collision.

Nelson resident Stevie Robb said she was awakened around 4am on Sunday, June 26, by her neighbor who knocked frantically on her door.

A vehicle had crashed into her car where it was parked on Franklin Street, smashing its back and pushing it onto the sidewalk.

The driver fled after the accident. All that was left was a large amount of radiator fluid on the ground, a four-wheel drive snorkel and a lotto ticket.

Robb’s vehicle was pushed onto the sidewalk by the force of the collision, despite having her handbrake on.

At that point, Robb didn’t even think about the ticket, as she was in shock at the condition of her car. Robb’s neighbor gave the ticket to the police, because it was possible to track who bought it.

Robb said the police called her and tracked down the lotto ticket.

Robb wants to know if it turns out to be a winner, she joked.

The rear windows of Robb’s seven-seater Honda Odyssey were completely smashed in and the rear bumper was hanging off.

Franklin St was pretty quiet most of the time, Robb said.

The car must have been going at a decent speed to do that much damage. The collision had left Robb’s vehicle on the sidewalk, even though she had the handbrake on.

Robb suspected that they were speeding – the limit was 50 km, and thought the driver would have whiplash from the crash.

Aside from the money, Robb said she wanted to know if the driver was okay.

“Their car must have been completely damaged.”

Stevie Robb's car was vandalized on Sunday morning, June 26, with only a lotto ticket left at the crime scene.

With three children and a stepson, the seven-seater played an important role in Robb’s family. She had paid nearly $13,000 for it.

Now Robb is without a vehicle. She paid a $400 deductible, and lost her reduced rate for auto insurance.

It was alarming that the driver did not stop to take ownership of the crash, Robb said. She is said to have contacted the police herself.

With $6.3 million to spend on a house, you could have just about anything you want.

A good thing: “It was really nice to know that we have supportive neighbors who will help.”

A police spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing.

The crash occurred the same night a car was wedged into a pedestrian walkway at the end of Mount St.

The car was later confirmed by police as the same vehicle doing wheelies on the Nelson College for Girls playing field.
