After returning to Tyneside and getting lost in the race, pigeons appeared 4,000 miles from their home in the United States.

Bob of Racing Pigeon was supposed to leave Guernsey in the Channel Islands three weeks ago and return to his home in northeastern England to race.

The journey should have taken about 10 hours, but the precious pigeon went missing.

Fortunately, an elderly man found a well-traveled bird in his yard in Mexia, Monroe County, Alabama on Wednesday.

He called the Monroe County Alabama Animal Shelter because he said it wouldn’t leave.

The shelter crossed the Atlantic Ocean in England and found its owner using a bird band and a microchip.

A charity spokesman said: Certainly enjoying his food. “

They said:’We asked an elderly gentleman for help.

“He showed a pigeon with a band at Mexia’s house.

“The pigeon didn’t leave him deciding to ask for help.

Crew Monica Lee Morris was able to chase the man home and safely catch this beautiful bird.

“After returning to the shelter, Monica and another crew member, Megan Brian, began working to track down the owner.

“They were able to get the numbers out of the band, but we could also use our microchip scanner to track a web page called the North of England Homing Union.

“The women followed the instructions and were immediately contacted by the owner-4000 miles northeast of England!

Former owner Alan Todd, 60, is a retired financial adviser to Blaydon, Tyne and Wear, and said Bob was a “special bird.”

He said he would do whatever it took to bring him back to Britain-but it estimates that it would cost between £ 2,500 and £ 3,000.

The charity continued: “We are currently working on a game plan to bring this champion pigeon back to its owner. It was very nice to hear from us.”

They said the birds were a little lighter and had oil marks on their wings, but were otherwise healthy.

Birds are understood to be worth £ 1,000, and the BBC reported that they belong to Winlaton, Tyne and Wear’s Allantod.

The pigeon Bob and Alan reunited on the webcam and he is now going to the United States to bring him back, the BBC said.

Alain explained that Bob the pigeon was donated to him by his deceased companion for the charity raffle he had to raise money for Marie Curie’s charity.

His sister Gillian died of the disease in 2018, and fundraising raised £ 5,500.

Alain said:’I’m going to get him back in some way.

“It’s a special pigeon.”

He said he was afraid of the worst when Bob didn’t return northeast from the race.

“Something went wrong,” he said.

“Whenever a pigeon goes missing, you are worried about what happened.

“Sometimes they die.

“It was very strange when I received the email that he was found.

“At first I thought it was in Ireland, but I knew it was in the United States. It’s amazing.

“Maybe he was caught in a thunderstorm in the strait and found a way to a boat heading in the opposite direction.”
