It comes as Adele was overcome with emotion as she took the stage in front of a 65,000-strong crowd as she returned for her first concert in five years.

The singer, who wore an elegant black off-the-shoulder halter-neck dress, held back her tears as she addressed the audience, telling them she was “f**king s****ing” after performing her first number.

As she stood in the early evening sun, the sequined detail glittered on her dress as she performed, with Adele yelling “I’m so glad to be back” as she looked out over the gigantic crowd.

Adele kicked off with her first song and encouraged the star-studded audience, including Tom Cruise, to sing along with her. Adele quickly caught on, declaring three songs in it: “My God, I’m home again.”

The star reportedly only played five songs from her latest record 30, including I Drink Wine, opting instead to treat the audience to some of her classics rather than play the entire album.

Adele had previously been plagued with vocal problems, but she kept them at bay during the performance by sipping a warm drink to soothe her throat.

Audiences were almost as star-studded as her private show An Audience With Adele in March earlier this year, when she brought in James Corden, Cameron Diaz, Niall Horan and Milly Bobby Brown.

It was the first public show Adele has played since she headlined two Wembley concerts in 2017. She postponed her residency in Las Vegas in January.

Earlier in the day, Adele is said to have performed a three-song sound check prior to the massive performance.

Before taking the stage, Adele was supported by a female lineup, including Gabrielle, Self Esteem and country singer Kasey Musgraves.

After she played the show, Adele was expected to join her family and friends at a backstage bar she’s renamed “The Queen Vic” as part of her rider for the two-night performance.
