New scorecards show climate progress in six front runner countries

This week as the midterm elections approach and Congress continues to discuss federal climate and clean energy laws RMI has released the first climate scorecard to show the progress of five major US states that are leading the climate and clean energy. The scorecard analyzes state-level progress in California (full analysis coming soon), Colorado, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Washington.

These front-line states are the key to tackling climate warming pollution across the country. In addition to setting bold goals for clean energy and climate change, the analyzed states account for about one-fifth of US greenhouse gas emissions.

“The RMI scorecard highlights two key advances in the state: how climate change efforts have already been achieved with concrete actions, and clean by the end of the decade. It’s a big gap left to reach our energy and climate change goals. ” Jacob Corbidae, principal of RMI’s US program, said.

“We know that the transition to clean energy already creates tremendous economic opportunities and benefits, but as climate science shows, tracking if emissions are cut in half by 2030. Planning is absolutely essential. A unique ability to set the pace nationwide, “he said.

“The importance of national leadership at this time cannot be exaggerated. The state is agile in a limited manner at the federal level, leveraging federal resources, planning projects that benefit the community. Has the ability to act. ” Kyle Clark-Sutton, Manager of RMI’s US Program, said. “”These scorecards provide clear milestones for achieving clean energy, transportation, and conservation goals over the last decade to maximize job creation, public health benefits, and future resilience. Shows the route. “
