Julian Assange appeals to the High Court for handing over to the United States

Julian Assange has appealed for the transfer from Britain to the United States on suspicion of his espionage.

This complaint arises because the founder of WikiLeaks is currently awaiting deportation while being imprisoned in the highest-security Belmarsh prison.

In April, a British court ruled that Assange could be sent for trial in the United States and sent the case to the British government for a ruling.

Home Secretary Priti Patel signed an order to approve Assange’s delivery on June 17, but an appeal was filed with the High Court on Friday.

Assange has been sought by US authorities for documents leaked in 2010 and 2011 in connection with the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

His wife, Stella, who married while in prison, joined protesters outside the Interior Ministry in central London on Friday, calling for the release of the founder of WikiLeaks from prison.

He has been in jail since he was dragged out of the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2019, where he lived since 2012.

Julian Assange has been fighting in British courts for years to avoid being sent to the United States. In the United States, there are 17 espionage and 1 computer misuse.

U.S. prosecutors say Australian citizens have endangered their lives by helping U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning steal classified diplomatic cables and military files later published by WikiLeaks.

For his supporters, Assange is a secret-breaking journalist who has exposed US military misconduct in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Assange’s supporters and lawyers claim that he was acting as a journalist and are entitled to the protection of the First Amendment of Freedom of Speech. They argue that the case was a political motivation, he faced inhumane treatment and could not be tried fairly in the United States.
