Weather: Central Aucklanders wake up with dense morning mist

Residents in central Auckland woke up to heavy fog, but it was clear air in the north and south of Auckland.

The MetService reported a temperature of 9.5C before 9am, with dense fog in the central city.

The air remained clean around Auckland Airport and the North Coast, MetService meteorologist Andrew James said.

“It is not widespread fog, because it is clear at both the airport and the North Coast. The fog in the city will start to clear up within the next few hours as the sun rises and there is more heating. ”

Aucklanders should expect a “reasonable day” with a peak of 16C once the fog clears, he said.

“There may be a strange mood, but more around Western Auckland and there will not be much wind.”

Fog is caused by overnight moisture in the air condensing and forming droplets, “those droplets are what the fog is”, he said.

There are currently no delays for flights from 08:50.
