477 new cases of Covid in South, three dead

Registered community cases of Covid-19 in the South are lower today than for most of this week, but there are still three deaths.

There were 477 new cases on Sunday in a week with more than 600 on five consecutive days.

In a statement, the health ministry said there were 4,924 new cases of intercourse nationwide.

The seven-day moving average of the number of community cases was 6,895 today, compared to 4,908 last Sunday.

Eleven deaths have been recorded nationwide: three from the South and Auckland regions, two from Canterbury and MidCentral and one from Taranaki.

Two people were in their sixties, two in their seventies, four in their eighties, and three over the age of 90. Of these people, five were women and six were men.

Today’s reported deaths, all of which occurred in the past three days, bring the total number of publicly reported deaths from Covid to 1,560 and the seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 14.

hospital admissions

There are 424 people in hospital today, compared to 332 on the same day last week.

Seven people were treated in intensive care or a high-dependency unit.
