Chelsea have sacked manager Thomas Tuchel after their 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb after spending £271 million on new players.

This comes after the club’s slow start to the Premier League season before their Champions League campaign turned into a nightmare when they lost to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday evening.

New owner Todd Boehly has wasted no time in firing Tuchel from his post after spending £271 million on new players during the summer transfer market.

A club statement read: “Chelsea Football Club said goodbye to Head Coach Thomas Tuchel today.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to thank Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time at the club.

“Thomas will rightfully have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, Super Cup and World Cup for clubs in his time here.

“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since the acquisition of the Club, and as it continues its hard work to move the club forward, the new owners believe that now is the right time to make this transition.

“Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and preparation for our upcoming matches as the club is quickly on track to appoint a new head coach. There will be no further comment until a new head coach is appointed.”

Tuchel was appointed Chelsea manager in January 2021, replacing the sacked Frank Lampard less than a month after he was relieved of his duties at Paris Saint-Germain.

He led the club to a second Champions League victory when they defeated Manchester City in an all-English final in Porto, followed by successes in the Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach also led the Blues to two consecutive FA Cup finals and the Carabao Cup final.
