Seven suspected members of a cult group were remanded in custody by a chief magistrate of Osogbo on Tuesday, July 5.
The suspects identified as Azeez Abibu, 29, Musbau Nurudeen, 23, Wasiu Sodiq, 28, Ganiyu Lekan, 27, Azeez Sikiru, 26, Soliu Mohammed, 20, and Ibrahim Mohammed, 21, were brought before the magistrate, Mr. Olusola Aluko , on 15 counts bordering on conspiracy, malicious harm, conduct that could violate the peace, unlawful shooting, among other things.
The prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, said the suspects belonged to the ‘Aye’ fraternity. According to him, the suspects and others carrying dangerous weapons committed the crime on June 18, 2022, when they damaged some APC billboards in Osogbo.
Olusegun disclosed that the violations violated and were punishable under Sections 516, 70, 64(a), 517, 451, 249(d), 517 and 80 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Acts of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
Shortly after the defendants pleaded not guilty to the 15 charges brought against them, the presiding magistrate, Aluko, remanded them to the Ilesa Correctional Center and adjourned the case until August 1, 2022, for questioning.
