The third developer beta for tvOS 16 is now available for download, alongside beta 3 of HomePod software.

The latest builds can be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center for those enrolled in the Developer Beta program, as well as via a wireless update for devices already running beta software.

Public betas of the developer versions are usually released shortly after the developer releases, but usually not after the first few versions of the first milestone betas. If they do, they can be obtained from the Apple Beta Software Program website.

The second tvOS 16 beta has landed on June 22while the first appeared after the watchOS 9 were shortly after the WWDC keynote about June the 6th† The final public versions of all of Apple’s landmark operating systems are expected to be released in the fall.

The third beta version of tvOS 16 is build number 20J5328g, higher than the second build, number 20J5319h.

While Apple didn’t reference tvOS 16 directly during WWDC, it does have some improvements. This includes Matter support for: HomeKitsupport for the latest HDR 10+ format, a new Remote Control app, Nintendo Switch controller support, and other UI refinements.

AppleInsiderand Apple itself, highly recommended users do not install the betas on “mission-critical” or primary devices as there is a small chance of data loss or other issues. Instead, testers should install betas on secondary or non-essential devices and make sure there are enough backups of important data before updating.

Members of the public wanting to try out the operating systems should at least wait for the public betas to begin rather than jump on the developer beta.
