Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam Tracking for Bad-Ass Opening at Box Office – The Hollywood Reporter

If the tracking is correct, Black Adam should donate Dwayne Johnson with the biggest theater box office opening of his career, outside the main Fast & Furious franchisee.

The release of New Line/Warner Bros. will debut anywhere from $70 million to $75 million, if not higher, on the weekend of October 21-23. Sources with access to tracking say the surveys show that: Black Adam is comparable in power to Sony’s original film venomwhich opened for $80 million in early October 2018.

If tracking and box office analysts are more conservative than with venom in suggesting $70 million plus for Black Adamit is because the register is still in pandemic recovery mode.

The film is the first live-action superhero picture in which Johnson has starred.

Black Adam reunites Johnson with his Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra, and will feature a team of heroes new to the DC movies: the Justice Society of America. That includes Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan). As for Johnson, he plays Black Adam – an antihero imbued with ancient power.

Johnson made a rare appearance on Comic-Con end of July plug in Black Adamwhich led to booing and screaming in Hall H.

In more recent days, Johnson personally stopped by SoFi Stadium to introduce a new trailer for Black Adam at the Los Angeles Rams-Buffalo Bills game that kicked off the 2022 NFL regular season. The fresh take on the DC movie also aired on NBC’s broadcast of Thursday night football.

Black Adam hopes to give the cash register the necessary self-confidence after a worrying delay in August and September after a summer storm. Superhero movies, in particular, have thrived during the pandemic era.

Johnson was last in theaters this summer when he starred in Warners’ DC League of Super Pets.
