Armed police rushed to the scene in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, around 7pm last night to reports of a shooting. The residential street remains closed after two people were taken to hospital.
Both are not life-threatening injuries, police said today.
But officers continue to investigate the incident and have arrested a number of suspects, reports Grimsby Live†
A spokesman for Humberside Constabulary said: “Officers are present at Sutcliffe Avenue, Grimsby, after being called this evening (Wednesday 6 July) regarding a reported firearms incident.
“Two people have been taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries, which are not considered life-threatening at this stage. A number of people have been arrested in connection with the incident and our investigation continues.
“Agents were quickly deployed and a barrier was placed to ensure the safety of bystanders.”
The same estate in Grimsby was shaken up last month after a newborn baby was found in a garbage can†
The boy was found around 5 p.m. in a brown garden waste bin with the umbilical cord still attached. The boy was taken to hospital and treated there.
There were reports that a concerned resident heard a baby’s cry coming from the bin and then, lifting the lid, found the toddler among the grass.
The baby’s young mother was found and was also taken to hospital where she was cared for by the appropriate authorities.
Humberside Police and the East Midlands Ambulance Service rallied in droves – at least four police cars and vans were on the scene by 20 June, accompanied by two ambulances.
Officers were seen going door to door talking to shocked residents of the estate, largely home to families and retirees.
