Horse racing tips: Frankie Dettori can wipe out rivals on this speedster on day one of Newmarket July Festival

TEMPLEGATE looks set to kick off the star-studded Newmarket July meeting with a bang.

Frankie Dettori and John Gosden have reunited after their 11-day ‘sabbatical’ – and our top tipster thinks they could score on day one.

Read on for his top tips, check out his in-depth guide to every Newmarket race, and support a horse by clicking on their odds.

MIGHTY ULYSSES (4.10 Newmarket, nap)

Frankie Dettori is back on the Gosden foal after the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot where he finished a close-up fifth. That was a top-notch attempt at taking a huge step forward in the handicap business class.

REPERTOIRE (4.40 Nieuwmarkt, nb)

He scored for Ascot during his comeback and has had two good runs since then. He was close-up third in Doncaster last time and the handicapper has left his mark.

PERSIAN FORCE (2.25 Newmarket, triplicate)

He finished strong when he finished second in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot last time.

This trip clearly fits its street and fast terrain is ideal too. With just three runs on the clock, there should be a lot more to come from Richard Hannon’s flyer.

NEW MARKET

1.20

IVORY MADONNA started with a promising third place finish at Goodwood before making a great effort in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.

This trip is ideal and it will take a good debut effort from one of the others to stop her.

Canadiansmokeshow was bred for this distance as a juvenile and Ryan Moore’s booking stands out. A market move would underline her opportunities.

Rose Prick has William Buick on board, but was bred to test more endurance. Cruise should know his job on Richard Hannon’s debut.

1.50

MASEKELA was an excellent fourth in the Derby, finishing strong to suggest this extra leave would be ideal.

Trainer Andrew Balding remains in excellent shape and there is more to come from this foal.

Walk Of Stars has been neutered since he was eliminated from the Derby. He’s another who should enjoy going uphill in the trip and he can show the form of his Lingfield Trial back on this conventional track for second.

Zechariah improved before moving to 1m6f when a short head second in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot.

Ryan Moore takes over and will likely make this a real test of endurance up front.

Deauville Legend was unlucky to be necked in a Royal Ascot handicap. This is more difficult, but he has more to come on his fifth run.

2.25

PERSIAN FORCE won the Brockelsby in March and built on that form as he came close in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

That proved his love for this trip and trainer Richard Hannon has a good track record in this match.

Little Big Bear is the obvious danger after beating 23 rivals to win the Windsor Castle Stakes, scoring second since.

That was over 5f but he came close to debuting over this distance so should stay.

Mysterious Night seemed like a bright prospect when she won in Newbury last month. This is a big step forward, but it has solid place claims.

Brave Nation was one of the victims of The Ridler in the game against Norfolk Stakes.

He was nevertheless a close fourth and is another in the mix who steps away.

Waiting All Night was behind the tip at Ascot and needs a lot more to turn the tables.

3.00

KHANJAR was an easy winner on the handicap debut at Ripon last time and there’s a lot more to come.

He picked up strong when asked and a 9lb increase in the weights won’t be enough to stop him.

Deodar is more capable than his third here 14 days ago. He traveled well, but did not return home above 7f. This drop in distance should help.

Ingra Tor didn’t go to a yard in York but looked good when he scored here on the other lane in April. He has strong claims for every way.

Bosh was asked to come back from afar as he finished fourth in Goodwood and his last win came over this distance.

Aasser is another shortlisted for a big prize after a close second to Ayr.

3.35

MOSTAHDAF showed their skills on this journey with a close second place finish in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot last time.

He likes this fast ground and looks better at this distance.

Yibir is the obvious threat after a good try in the Grade 1 Man O War Stakes at Belmont in the United States last time.

Last time he ran here he was flipped at 1-4 which is a concern. He will do his best work at the finish.

The others seem way behind the big two.

New mandate is most interesting to try this trip for the first time.

He failed to start the race in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot last time and could win the battle for third place.

Global Storm is taking winning shape on this journey, albeit at a lower level. He was kept in a handicap last time, so he has to climb a mountain here.

4.10

MIGHTY ULYSSES stepped out of the handicap business to come mighty close last time in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

This is a drop in class on a journey that suits you – and Frankie is back in the saddle for Team Gosden for good measure. That seems like a winning combination.

Berkshire Shadow was just a length behind the selection on the Queen’s course and seems to be the biggest threat.

He has only had two runs this season and could get better again.

This is a hot listed match where Albahr has a Group 1 win on his resume from Woodbine in Canada.

He’s the best in this journey, but may need this run after six months off.

The Acropolis was a close second to The Curragh recently, but this is a tougher competition so he has a lot more to find.

4.40

Improved REPERTOIRE for ramping up to a mile when a close-up third in Doncaster last time.

He had to make up quite a bit of ground and Jim Crowley could have him a little closer to the pace here, which will help. He’s right next to it and won’t be far away.

Enforced got the job neatly done 14 days ago across course and distance. That was his handicap debut and he needed all the miles to get his head up front.

A 5lb increase for that effort seems reasonable and it was only his fourth run so Roger Varian’s hopes should be able to take a step forward.

William Buick has chosen Noble Dynasty from the Charlie Appleby couple.

He is just 1 pound above his last win figure, which he reached during this trip in Thirsk in September. He must be fit enough to do himself justice.

Stablemate Echo Point ran in stronger races than this one in Dubai earlier this year. He has low mileage and can improve enough to score.

Coase scored at the Rowley Mile in April and hasn’t had a bad run since. He didn’t seem at home at more than 1m2f last time.

Evocative Spark is in great shape and is another for the shortlist.
