Thor star Chris Hemsworth put down his trusty hammer for an evening to read CBeebies Bedtime Story, inspired by the divine powers of its Marvel character.
The actor is currently promoting his latest MCU movie, Thor: Love and Thunderwho sees him reunite with Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, now transformed into Mighty Thor.
The 38-year-old admitted that while he knows “a thing or two about thunder and lightning,” he feels better when the storm is over β an important message for the story he’ll be reading during his CBeebies debut.
The book by children’s author Salina Yoon, titled Stormy Night, is about a bear who is “afraid of rain and thunder.”
Salina has written other episodes about the bear and has also published a series of books about a penguin.
Chris, who shares three children with wife Elsa Pataky, explained how much he enjoys reading to his own children.
“I love nothing more than to read bedtime stories to my children and it was a joy to read Stormy Night, a story about a little bear who is afraid of storms,” ββhe said.
“Even though I know a thing or two about thunder and lightning, I always feel better when the storm is over.”
Chris is one of several Marvel stars who have joined the readers of CBeebies Bedtime Story, with Tom Hiddleston, who plays his on-screen brother Loki, also taking part, as well as Captain America actor Chris Evans.
Other celebrities who have lent their story-reading skills include The Office star Steve Carell, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and singer Harry Styles.
The Duchess of Cambridge also took part in Children’s Mental Health Week and read Jill Tomlinson’s The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark.
Chris has a daughter and twin sons, born in May 2012 and March 2014 respectively.
Recently it appeared that his children appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, alongside Natalie’s children, Christian Bale’s children and director Taika Waititi’s brood.
Chris’ eight-year-old sons play the younger version of his character Thor, while his 10-year-old daughter plays the character Love.
“It’s really cool, they really wanted to be in it,” Hemsworth said of his kids’ involvement in the film, adding, “It felt like a one-time fun family experience.”
Chris Hemsworth’s episode CBeebies Bedtime Stories will air Friday, July 8 at 6:50pm on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.
