Fans can now join the waiting list for the Nothing phone (1)

The Nothing phone (1) is sold through an invitation system. How do you get an invitation? Well, you get on the pre-order waiting list, that’s how.

Private community members will receive their invite codes today. If you’re not there, you can sing here if you’re in Europe or here if you’re in India to get a seat in the queue. You can move up the queue by referring friends (well, you only move up if they sign up too). At the time of writing, there are already over 20,000 fans in the queue.

Once it’s your turn, you’ll receive an email with the invite code and must act within 48 hours. This will require a £20 non-refundable deposit, but for your effort you will receive an additional £20 credit to spend on the phone (1) or ear (1).

This all builds up to July 12, when Nothing actually starts taking orders – everything up to that point was just jockeying for position. The £20 deposit will be deducted from the price of the phone – we should note that we still don’t know what that will be. You have at least 14 days to confirm the order.

There’s no indication that phone requirements (1) will be limited in the beginning, so this invite system is a way for community members to stay ahead of everyone else. This way, fans should have the new phone for a few weeks before someone else can pick one up.

As some of you may recall, the OnePlus One (the first phone that Carl Pei’s old company launched) became available in June 2014 through an invite system. In December of that year, the company celebrated its first anniversary by making the One available for free. It’s not clear how long the Nothing invite system will last, it likely depends on how quickly the company’s production catches up with demand.
