While football fans will not enjoy the World Cup this year there are still plenty of major sports competitions, and today marks the beginning of Euro 2022 ladies.
The competition (which started in 1982) will take place in football stadiums across England, from Wigan to Brighton and Manchester to London† This means the lionesses have home field advantage and expectations are set for the team, captained by Leah Williamson and coached by Sarina Wiegman†
England will have to fend off 15 other countries on the way to the final, which will take place at Wembley Stadium.
They are on their way to a good – if slightly shaky – start with a 1-0 win over Austria in the opening game of the tournament.
Can England continue their winning start in the Euro 2022 women’s competition? This is when their next game will take place…
When is England’s next match for Euro 2022?
England will face Norway next time Monday 11 July, with kick-off scheduled for 8 p.m.
The England team is in Group A, alongside Austria, Norway and Northern Ireland.
Their second game will be at Falmer Stadium, also known as the Amex, home of Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
England already have three points thanks to one goal from Beth Mead in the 16th minute of their opening game against Austria.
Austria proved to be a frustrating side for the rest of the game, and while the Lionesses created some great chances, a lack of ruthlessness prevented England from extending their lead.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, head coach Sarina Wiegman said: “I am not frustrated. I just think we can do better.
“The first game in a tournament, it’s so important to win and have a good start. We showed different stages – some good, some not so good.
“We didn’t start very well. We’ve done much better [then]† In the second half we created chances but were too sloppy with the ball.’
