Chocolate maker Whittaker’s has won the Supreme Award at the Wellington Gold Awards, while Chief Marketing Officer Jane Anthony previously received the brand’s Global Gold Award.

Chocolate maker Whittaker’s has won the Supreme Award at the 2022 Wellington Gold Awards.

The family-owned business has been making sweet treats for over a century since it was founded in 1896 by James Henry Whittaker.

JH Whittaker and Sons, based in Porirua, has been named as New Zealand’s most trusted brand for 11 consecutive yearswith its products reaching far corners of the world including Hong Kong, the Middle East and Kenya.

Since Whittaker’s began making the famous peanut plate in the 1950’s, Whittaker’s has collaborated with other Kiwi companies to create numerous innovative new flavors

Dancers entertained the more than 800 people who attended Thursday night’s awards ceremony at the TSB Arena.

More than 800 people attended the awards ceremony at the TSB Arena on Thursday evening, which was held in conjunction with The Dominion Post to recognize companies in the Wellington area.

“The Gold Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in the Wellington region,” said Anna Fifield, editor of The Dominion Post

Wellington-based motorcycle manufacturer FTN Motion’s founders Luke Sinclair and Kendall Bristow received the award for their locally developed electric moped, Streetdog.

Other winners are the Ika Rere (flying fish), the electric passenger ferry that carries passengers across Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Both the builder, the Wellington Electric Boat Company (WEBBCO), and the operator East by West Ferries won the Innovation and Green categories respectively.

Real estate developer and philanthropist Mark Dunajtschik was honored with a special Tribute to a Wellington Icon. Dunajtschik announced at the event that he and his life and business partner Dorothy Spotswood would contribute up to $50 million for a new mental health unit in Lower Hutt.
