WHEN it comes to bargain hunting, Dollar Tree is always a great place to explore.
The discount chain has stores across the country and offers a variety of items from home decor to cleaning supplies and food.
blogger Kathryn Snearly is an organization and design expert known for the home hacks she shares on her YouTube channel, Do It On A Dime, where she has over 2 million subscribers.
She’s a fan of Dollar Tree and said you need three things to have a great shopping experience there: the right season, the right size, and the right staff.
SEASONAL SHOPPING
Kathryn said that in most Dollar Trees, you’ll find year-round items in the center of the store, while the seasonal and newer items are on the edge.
“The seasonal material comes to the store in two waves: first the preview wave and then the full stock for that season,” she explains.
Seasonal stocking starts about a month before the holidays.
“So if you’re buying Valentine’s Day items, come early January for that first preview.”
SHOP FORMAT
When it comes to store size, bigger is better as the bigger Dollar Trees always have more inventory.
You can find the largest stores by going to their website DollarTree.com and going to the store locator section.
The site goes into detail about what each store carries.
“If it sells ice cream in bags, has a freezer section, a snack area, and is marked with a ‘Dollar Tree Plus’, that’s probably a bigger store.”
STAFF
Kathryn’s third tip was to find a store with good staff.
“That makes all the difference,” she says.
If you walk into a Dollar Tree and notice that there aren’t many employees around, that location is probably not your best option.
Plus, she said you should look at those stores that are close to all of Dollar Tree’s distribution centers.
“This has not been verified, this is just my experience: the closer you are to a distribution center, the better the products you get. And more than that, you get them faster.”
She ranked the states with the best Dollar Tree stores.
Texas took first, California second, Florida third, New York fourth and Pennsylvania fifth.
Her list also included Ohio, Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina, and Michigan.
For those of you who don’t feel like wandering the aisles of a store, don’t worry, you can still shop online.
If you do this, Kathryn recommends ordering the items to “ship to the store” rather than to your home, as this guarantees that all items will arrive.
