Photos of the damaged suitcase were posted on Twitter.
A traveler has told about the extraordinary damage she says was done to her suitcase during a Delta flight in the US.
American Emilie Hofferber posted several photos of her destroyed luggage on Twitter with the shocked caption: “What the f– Delta” and tagged the offending airline.
The photos show her suitcase ripped to shreds on one side, a wheel missing and her clothes falling out of the zipper.
Emilie also claimed that the airline had offered to cover the damage but would only send it via “check by mail”.

“10-14 days to receive a refund check in the mail? In 2022 we will send checks because that is the most effective way to transfer money…” she tweeted.
“How did this even happen?” Emilie asked in another tweet.
Ironically, Emilie also shared an older tweet where she posted a glowing review of Delta before her suitcase was inexplicably destroyed.
“I even complimented you guys,” she wrote, reposting the message that read, “I forgot how much superior Delta was to the U.S. [Airlines]†
In a follow-up message, the disappointed traveler said she had paid $600 for her plane ticket, in addition to a $100 “dog fee” and $170 to check her bags in — just to have her luggage handled this way.
Emilie’s followers were similarly stunned at how the luggage could have been so mangled in transit.
“Did someone drop it in a wood chipper?” one person asked. “That level of damage is almost impressive.”
“The way my mouth just dropped, omg what the hell Delta,” wrote another.
Several people even joked that the suitcase looked like a bear had attacked it or someone was trying to stuff the bag into a paper shredder.
“Was there a bear in the cargo hold???” one user asked. “Luggage handled by a comically drunk Edward Scissorhands,” another joked.
“I also paid $100 extra for my bags because one was too heavy, like I spent enough that should be the bare minimum…don’t feed it to a bear,” Emilie replied.
In a statement to 9Honey, Delta apologized for the incident and said it has been in contact with Emilie.
“Delta apologizes to this customer for the damage to its luggage and contents,” the statement said.
“Delta teams have been in contact with the customer to provide compensation for this rare occurrence.”
