Employees of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, rescued an alleged kidnapped yahoo-yahoo student, 17-year-old Destiny Peter, from an apartment in Mpape, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Friday, July 1, 2022.
A statement released by the commission today on July 7 says that Peter contacted the EFCC on July 1, 2022 via his official Twitter handle, @officialEFCC, and told how the internet fraudsters allegedly kidnapped and planned to kidnap him. to use it for rituals.
He was told to send a screenshot of his location to the Commission using the Google Location app on his Android phone.
In a series of tweets, Peter wrote:
“Good afternoon sir, I called the EFCC number and made some complaints about some Yahoo guys who are planning to use me for rituals and he told me to send a screenshot of the location
The house is in Mpape, but don’t know the exact place, so check Google Maps and save the screenshot.
I’m in the bathroom because I don’t want his boys to know what I’m doing.
My name is Destiny Peter and the place is Mpape. I don’t know the actual place but I used google maps and the people in the house are now his guys. Hold on, let me try to make a video, sir”
The commission said on the Twitter alert that the EFCC quickly mobilized a team of detectives to the area for his rescue, and they found him locked in a room.
They rescued him and arrested 16-year-old Aboaba David, 18-year-old Isaac Johnson, 20-year-old cook, Miracle Moses, a hairdresser, and the syndicate’s leader, 20-year-old Jamilu Aliyu, popularly known as Jamie Smith.
During the interrogation, Peter said he was threatened by Jamilu Smith, the leader of the gang. He further stated that Smith threatened him that if he could not cash out (cheat) people within two weeks, he would be sacrificed for rituals.
During the interrogation, David said Smith was their leader and recruited them to join him in searching for potential victims of online dating for fraud. All the other suspects pointed to Smith as their leader. Smith, for his part, disproved Peter’s claim that he had been kidnapped. He preferred to say that Peter’s brother willingly brought him over to teach him bitcoin and gift card trading
The commission added that all suspects are in the custody of the EFCC for further investigation and that they will appear in court once the investigation is completed.
