Ex-Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ‘SHOT in the chest and unresponsive’ in Nara city with suspect in custody

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has reportedly been shot in the chest and has become unresponsive. according to national channels.

Abe, 67, collapsed bleeding and heart failure after being beaten Friday in the western city of Nara, national broadcaster NHK reported.

Abe was rushed to hospital and was unconscious after the attack.

A suspect was arrested at the scene, an NHK reporter said.

Local officials said he may have gone into cardiac arrest, according to Bloomberg

The suspected shooter turned out to be a young or middle-aged man.

Shootings in Japan are rare as they have some of the strictest gun laws in leading economies.
