Eid al-Adha is an important date in the Islamic calendar because it celebrates the ‘feast of the sacrifice’.

Eid al-Adha – meaning festival of sacrifice – recalls a story about Allah asking Abraham to sacrifice his son, as a sign of faith.

It is also the time of year when many Muslims make a five-day pilgrimage to the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia called hajj

All Muslims who can make the pilgrimage are expected to travel to Mecca once in their lifetime – to pray in front of the Kaaba, the religion’s holiest shrine.

But when is the party this year?

When is Eid al-Adha in 2022?

The exact date is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon that will signal the beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah – the 10 blessed days leading up to the festival.

Eid al-Adha is estimated to take place between July 9 and July 13 this year, although this can vary depending on where in the world you are.

Although it is an important time in the calendar, the actual date of Eid al-Adha varies from year to year, just like Easter and Sugar festival

This is because it is based on the lunar calendar and the sighting of a new moon.

The sighting of the new moon varies around the world, so the exact date may change depending on where you are and local religious authorities.

For example, in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, the current expected date for Eid al-Adha is July 21, but these dates are subject to change.

In 2020 it took place from July 30 to August 3 and in 2021 from July 19 to 23.

What is the difference between Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr?

Eid al-Adha and Sugar festivalare two different festivals that take place in the Islamic calendar.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadanand is celebrated for one to three days, depending on the country.

Fasting is prohibited on Eid, unlike the 30 days before.

This year, Eid al-Fitr was celebrated on May 2, 2022 in the United Kingdom.

Eid celebrations usually start with sunrise prayers in a mosque, and Eid al-Adha is no different.

Muslims will greet each other with the festive spirit Eid Mubarak and exchange gifts and share food with friends and family.

It is still common for people to hand out meat during the festival, following the tradition of people offering their best animals on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
