For the first time in months, it was not a Red Bull that won a race, but a Ferrari. Carlos Sainz’s win at the British Grand Prix last week was his first in F1, but that it was him and not teammate Charles Leclerc means Max Verstappen’s seventh-place finish was not penalized as harshly as it could have been.
The Dutchman still leads the standings: 34 points from teammate Sergio Perez and 43 from Charles Leclerc.
When is it?
The Austrian Grand Prix 2022 will run from Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 11.
What time does it start?
The Austrian Grand Prix is one of three sprint race weekends to take place in the 2022 season, meaning the sessions and timing are a little unusual.
The first practice will start on Friday 8th July at 12:30pm BST with qualifying (which will determine the starting grid for the sprint race) at 4pm BST on the same day. That’s the usual one-hour three-part session. On Saturday there will be the second practice at 11:30 am with the sprint race (which should last about 30 minutes) at 3:30 pm. The results of this determine the starting grid for Sunday’s Grand Prix, which starts at 2 p.m.
What TV channel is it on?
Sky Sports F1 have almost exclusive live broadcast rights in the UK this year and indeed for the next few with their usual excellent team.
Sky’s qualifying report on Friday starts at 3.30pm BST. Their sprint race program starts at 2:30 PM on Saturday and their race report on 12:30 PM on Sunday.
