Some of those who responded to the news noted that Labor is now in a favorable position and Sir Keir has avoided following Boris Johnson.
He does not have to keep his promise to resign and can continue to push his party as a champion of integrity and the rule of law.
Lewis Goodall, policy editor at BBC Newsnight, reacted to the news, saying Sir Keir’s gamble “paid off”.
He said: “In a week when the incumbent prime minister has been scandally forced to resign for reasons of personal honesty, he can claim a double victory, and his front benchers will be able to continue to draw the comparison between the two men.”
