A house fire in Mana’s SH59 blocked the southbound lane near Pasco Avenue on Monday.

A house fire on State Highway 59 in Mana blocked the southbound lane near the intersection on Pasco Avenue.

There were no reports of injuries caused by the flames that destroyed a 20mx15m one-story building near Mana Esplanade.

Plimmerton’s chief of fire, Carl Mills, said Fire and Emergency answered multiple 111 calls shortly after 4:30 am.

By the time the crew arrived at the scene, the house had been well down, but all residents were safely off the building.

Twenty-five firefighters were able to fight the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby homes, Mills said.

According to Mills, the fire was extinguished about 40 minutes after the crew arrived at the scene.

“It was a very big fire that broke out fairly quickly,” Mills said.

The fire brigade remained at the scene of weakening the hotspot, but was currently unable to enter the scene due to “structural problems”.

According to Mills, fire inspectors will investigate the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Police were helping the residents of the building.

According to Mills, one lane of Mana Esplanade was blocked, but as of 6:45 am, traffic was free to flow through the area.

Wakako Tahi NZ Transport Agency advised drivers to anticipate delays.
