Edith Wharton’s latest novel, the unfinished “The Buccaneers” which began in the 1930s, is set to become an Apple TV + series, starring Kristine Froseth and Alisha Boe.

Although Wharton did not complete the novel when she died in 1937, she left a detailed account. Now series creator Katherine Jakeways, best known for “Tracey Ullman’s Show” and “Where This Service Will Terminate,” has written a dramatization of eight episodes.

“Girls with money, men with power,” Apple’s description of the program said in its announcement. “New money, old secrets.”

“A group of fun-loving young American girls explode in the tightly corseted London season of the 1870s,” Apple continues, “which kicks off an Anglo-American culture clash as the country is infiltrated by the stiff upper lip by a refreshing disregard for centuries. ” of tradition. “

“Sent to secure men and titles, the pirates’ hearts are set on much more than that,” Apple concludes, “and saying ‘I do’ is just the beginning …”

The series is currently being produced in Scotland and is being made by The Forge Entertainment for Apple. Beth Willis from “Doctor Who” and “Ashes to Ashes” is executive producer with Jakeways and director Susanna White.

“The Buccaneers” features Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, Imogen Waterhouse and Mia Threapleton. No stream date has been announced yet.
