Leeds 2-3 Fulham: Cottagers come from behind to put pressure on Jesse Marsch . to increase

A fourth defeat in a row has put further pressure on head coach Jesse Marsch of Leeds, whose scoreless streak has been extended to eight games.

It started well for the under attack American as Rodrigo Leeds headed in the lead, but they were snatched back before half time by Aleksandar Mitrovic‘s head.

Leeds had most of the ball in the second period as they looked to regain the lead but there was no end product and they were penalized by Decordova-Reid’s header and Willian’s sliding finish.

Leeds substitute Crysencio Summerville narrowed the deficit in the first minute of added time but it wasn’t enough and by then Marsch had already endured chants of “you’ll be fired tomorrow” from his own fans.

Fulham maintained their impressive progress under Marco Silva after Thursday night’s 3-0 home win against Aston Villa took them to ninth in the standings. They are now eighth after their fifth league win of the season following promotion under Silva last May.

Leeds’ accustomed flying start saw Fulham scramble into their own penalty area as Luis Sinisterra and then Jack Harrison were ousted.

But the only shot on target in an encouraging opening spell for Leeds came from Sam Greenwood, who was only making his second start for the club, and it flew over the bar.

Fulham were denied an opener on their first try and against the course of events in the 14th minute when Harrison Reed’s low shot was brilliantly blocked on the goal line by Marc Roca and then cleared by Robin Koch.

Leeds were then rewarded for their breakneck start. Brenden Aaronson knocked out Harrison and his shot was deflected from Fulham skipper Tim Ream to the far post where Rodrigo headed home his fifth goal of the season.

The home side’s lead was short-lived, however, as Mitrovic’s header from Andreas Pereira’s corner flew through the grip of Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Fulham’s response – and Mitrovic’s ninth league goal of the season – silenced Elland Road and the home fans held their breath shortly afterwards as Pereira raced clear after a clearance from a Leeds corner. But Meslier, who made his 100th Whites appearance, made up for his earlier blunder with a stunning block to keep the scores at halftime.

Leeds flew out of the blocks after the restart. Rodrigo’s shot was held by Bernd Leno and Aaronson’s effort curled wide. Rodrigo and Luke Ayling both fired wide as Leeds’ chances increased, before the latter saved his side twice on the other side, thwarting Joao Palhinha and blocking another goal.

Leno produced a smart block to reject substitute Patrick Bamford in the second half, but Fulham turned the game upside down when the unmarked Decordova-Reid headed them ahead from a cross from Pereira.

A large number of home fans called for March to leave, chanting “fire the board” before Willian Reed’s 84th-minute cut-back returned home, while Summerville’s stoppage time for Leeds was only a consolation.
