Dumped islander Ikenna Ekwonna has revealed Love Island contestants knew Gemma Owen is ex-footballer Michael Owen’s daughter from the beginning.

Gemma, 19, is the eldest daughter of the ex-footballer and his childhood sweetheart Louise Ball, but despite being the daughter of a sports legend, Gemma has managed to keep it a secret for quite some time.

She recently referred to him at the Beach Hut, but until now it was unknown if the rest of the villa knew about her famous father.

However, on Aftersun with Laura Whitmore, Ikenna sat next to fellow islander dumped Amber Beckford, admitting: ‘We didn’t really know until the second or third day.’

He added: “I don’t think the girls knew the way the boys knew.”

Despite Ikenna’s comments that they all knew, Afia Tonkmor, who was the first islander to be officially dumped, revealed that the islanders never spoke about Gemma’s famous father.

When asked by a fan if the islanders knew about it, she replied on Instagram: “If people know, I knew before I went in because I saw her VT.

“But if people do know, they don’t care… nobody really cares.”

The host of the private members club lounge said she “don’t know who” Michael is either, which left us stunned.

“I don’t know who he is, I know he’s a footballer, it was never, ever talked about in my presence,” she added.

Gemma has so far given some hints to the rest of the islanders about her link to the former striker.

Last night, in an Unseen Bits clip, Gemma finally mentioned her dad in the privacy of the Beach Hut, though she didn’t mention him.

Instead, she used his famous football phrase following a segment asking the islanders to make their best celebrity impression, with new bombshell Antigoni Buxton impersonating her celebrity chef mom Tonia Buxton.

“There’s no way I’m going to do my father,” Gemma said to the camera, where the other participants couldn’t hear her.

She continued: “But people always do the classic, ‘If they don’t score, they don’t win.’

‘It’s like that. It’s some bulls**t or whatever,” she added.

Elsewhere, Gemma referred to her father in a conversation with Luca Bish, who she is currently in a relationship with, though she managed to avoid naming the football legend.

Gemma noted that Luca and her father had similar interests, such as racing and soccer.

He was heard to answer: ‘I talk about football all the time. We’ll see if he knows what he’s talking about.’

Elsewhere, Liam Llewellyn, who voluntarily left the villa after the first few days and was originally linked to Gemma, shared his shock to learn about her famous father after he left the villa.

After the pair talked about football early in the process, he told Aftersun, “I can’t believe who that actually was. Thats crazy.

“I’m a United fan. I actually have one of his tops when he came to the club.”

He added: “That first night we talked about football and her family. I was so close. I can’t believe I didn’t quite make it out.’

Love Island airs tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
