Prince Harry news: ‘Emotional confusion’ with William would have left Diana ‘hurt’ | Royal | News

The relationship between Prince Harry and his older brother Prince William has been in the spotlight in recent years. During Harry and Meghan’s 2019 tour of South Africa, the Duke told journalist Tom Bradby: “We are brothers, we will always be brothers. We are definitely on different paths right now. But I will always be there for him, like I know he will always be there for me.

Since Harry relinquished his title as a working member of the royal family to move to Canada with his family, the royal brothers are believed to have only seen each other on a handful of occasions.

Now Princess Diana’s biographer, Mr Morton, has spoken of the relationship they share, saying their mother would be “mortified” by what happened between them.

He told the Daily Mirror’s podcast, Pod Save the Queen: “There’s no doubt about it, she would be mortified that William and Harry got into this emotional mess.

“She has always told me on numerous occasions that Harry was William’s wingman, that he was the second boy to be born into the royal family.

She even looked to the past and pointed out that most members of the royal family simply have a girl and a boy like Princess Margaret or two girls like Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

“She really felt that Harry was there to support William in a very lonely job. She would find it very difficult for them not to communicate, at least not in public.”

Morton also explained in the podcast how Prince Harry’s style was so much like Diana’s at royal engagements.

He said: “Prince Harry was and is a natural, he and his wife have charisma and there’s no denying it.

“People react very positively to them when they meet him. Obviously there is a lot of negativity around their behavior and policies, but Harry has always been someone who connects.

And when I see Harry kneeling with his arm around some child, I just look at Diana. It takes you 25, 30 years back in time.’

Diana’s former biographer also said that Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, reminds him “so much of Diana” in terms of how she first seemed shy in public, but has now overcome that.

Morton explains: “I realized after all these years watching the royal family that it takes a very, very long time to really understand what it’s like to be a royal.

“Catherine was quite a shy person, so giving speeches and being in public was something of an order, but I think she overcame that.

“She reminds me so much of Diana. She’s struggled for a few years to come to terms with what it’s like to be a princess.”
