Segun Oni, Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the June 18 gubernatorial election in Ekiti state, challenges the election results at the petitions tribunal in Ado, the capital of Ekiti state.
Joined by his legal team and the SDP state president and chiefs, Oni submitted a more than 1,000-page petition to the secretariat of the Election Petitions Tribunal on Thursday evening.
Although he did not speak about the contents of the petition, he told reporters that the intent is to defend the sanctity of the system.
The leader of his legal team said the petition will challenge the eligibility of All Progressives Congress elected governor Mr Oyebanji to contest the election and cast doubt on the actual victory attributed to him in the poll.
