Golfers make courageous efforts for gut health

Kiwi sports greats put their golf skills to the test this week, all in the name of gut health research.

About 20 former and current athletes participated in an annual golf tournament at Pegasus to raise money for the Gut Foundation.

Cricket great Sir Richard Hadlee topped the guest list, along with some former All Blacks, netballers and other cricket greats.

The Pegasus Golf Club is the 71-year-old’s home club and the tournament he has been involved in for a number of years.

“I know my way around this course. But unfortunately the golf ball doesn’t know its way…not consistently anyway”.

Hadlee knows better than anyone that there is a serious message behind the social tournament.

“In many ways I am a victim of a bowel problem. In 2018 I was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer, which is colon and liver cancer. It is quite serious”.

He would like to contribute to awareness of the importance of good intestinal health and regular checkups.

The proceeds of the tournament will go to further research and education.
