Cristiano Ronaldo receives first confirmed transfer offer to leave Manchester United

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is about to face an Australian charm offensive as A-League boss Danny Townsend has confirmed an offer to bring the player Down Under from his agent. George Mendesshould Ronaldo and Manchester United part ways.

Ronaldo’s second spell at United appears to be over after the attacker decided to speak out against the club in an interview with Piers Morgan.

The 37-year-old is currently preparing for the World Cup with Portugal, but could go there Australia come the new year if Townsend gets his way.

“(Ronaldo) said he didn’t get love and respect at Manchester United, but we will definitely give him a lot of love and respect in Australia,” Townsend said in comments published by News Corp.

“We may not be able to compete with other offerings financially, but we can compete in other ways.”

Ronaldo would join former United and Portugal teammate Nani, who joined A-League club Melbourne Victory this season.

“Obviously it’s a gamble, but we certainly have an attractive proposition for him to consider here in Australia,” Townsend told local radio station SportsFM earlier on Thursday.
