On Monday Justin Instagram to show his injury.
The professional chef posted a close-up photo of himself, which showed a large cut and stitches across his face.
He captioned the post: “’The pain means you’re alive. The scars mean you survived.’
“A few more surgeries to go… #comingbackstrongerthanbefore #thelongroad.”
Friends and fans flocked to the comments to wish him well.
One wrote: “Chief wishes you a speedy recovery.”
Another commented: “Recover quickly my friend!!”
Another wrote: “I send light and love my brother… you have so much more to do and to share with the world. Grateful that you are still with us.”
Justin sustained the injury earlier this month.
TRAGEDY SUCCESS
The accident occurred on July 3 with the news shared via a pronunciation posted on his Instagram account.
It read: “He is recovering and in a good mood.
“He will be off the radar for a while while making a full recovery.”
The statement concluded: “At this time, his family asks for privacy, but please send him positive thoughts and prayers.”
Monday’s Instagram post marked his first time showing the extent of the injury.
After sharing the first news about the accident, Justin’s Instagram appeared another message revealing that family and friends had organized a fundraiser for him.
The message read: “7/7/22 Day of Hope for @chefjustinsutherland We will donate 100% of sales to help with Justin’s medical bills.
“As many of you know, Justin suffered a tragic boating accident on July 3rd, which left him with serious life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, like so many in our hospitality industry, he has no health insurance.
“Justin has stood by our Hope family through some of our most difficult times in recent years – feeding those affected with food insecurity during the pandemic. Now it’s our turn to stand by him.”
The post contained a link to a GoFundMewhich contained some gruesome details about the accident.
SCARY DETAILS
The GoFundMe reveals, “On Sunday, July 3, Justin, like many Minnesotans, enjoyed a day off boating on the water with friends. Of course he was the ‘captain’ and of course he had to wear an official captain’s cap.
While driving his boat Justin’s hat blew off. He tried to grab it, hit a wave and was knocked off the boat.
“He fell into the water near the engine and the propeller did a number on his head and left arm. His arm is broken, but his grip remains strong and there appears to be no nerve damage.
It continued: “His jaw is badly broken, but doctors are optimistic he will be grinning with several more surgeries in no time.
“In addition to his broken bones, he suffered many cuts, but with plastic surgery they will become a reminder of his survival story.
“The good news is that he will be fine. Maybe after a while he will get better. He adds more character to the face that we know and love, and the most important news is that his beard is intact .”
Justin appeared in Season 16 of Top Chef and is also the winner of Iron Chef America.
He hosts TruTV’s Fast Foodies and will serve as a judge on Food Network’s Kitchen Crash, which premieres July 12.
