Covid: 946 southern cases, 11,548 national

There are 946 new community cases of Covid-19 to report in the South today, the highest daily number since May 3.

One person has also died from the disease in the region.

In a statement this afternoon, the health ministry said 19 people had died nationwide, there were 11,548 new cases of intercourse and 710 people were hospitalized.

There are 17 people in intensive care or a highly dependent ward.

The seven-day moving average for the number of community cases is 9550 today, compared to 7246 this time last week.

19 new deaths have been recorded, all occurring in the past two days, bringing the total number of deaths from Covid to 1,707.

Of the people whose deaths we report today: one was from the Auckland area, three was from Bay of Plenty, one was from Taranaki, two was from Whanganui, one was from Hawkes Bay, four was from MidCentral, one was from Lakes, three were from the Wellington area, two were from Canterbury and one was from the south.

One was in his forties, two were in his sixties, three were in his seventies, five were in his eighties, and eight were over 90. Of these people, ten were women and nine men.

The seven-day moving average of reported deaths is 17.
