A Magistrate Court in Akure, Ondo State, has ordered the pre-trial detention of a 31-year-old man, Dele Ebenezer, in police custody for the alleged death of an employee.
Police prosecutor Omhenimhen Augustine told the court that the accused allegedly killed Blessing Eze, 47, by *having* with her.
Augustine explained that the deceased lost consciousness during *, resulting in her death.
However, the accused allegedly committed the crime on June 22, 2022, around 4 a.m. at the Cool Corner Hotel in Ondo, pleaded not guilty, but his plea was not passed.
Augustine said the violation violated Section 316(2) and is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, 37. Part 1, Ondo State Laws, 2006.
The prosecutor urged the court to take the suspect into pre-trial detention pending the issue of the DPP opinion.
Counsel for the accused, CO Falana, prayed that the court would allow him to file a counter affidavit.
In his ruling, Magistrate OR Yakubu admitted that the accused person had been remanded in custody and adjourned the case until July 14, 2022 so that the court, DPP, could argue the request for pre-trial detention.
