Mike Tindall Takes Up Big Challenge To Make ‘Pray for Me’ Close to His Heart | Royal | News

The former English rugby player, who is married to the queen’s granddaughter Zara, will travel 770 km (478 miles) across the Alps next month to raise money for Cure Parkinson’s. The charity – which works to find ways to slow, stop or reverse Parkinson’s disease – is a cause Mike’s heart is close to, as his father, Phillip Tindall, was diagnosed with the condition in 2003.

Mike took to Instagram to post a video about his upcoming challenge.

The 43-year-old is taking the cycle with a group, including people with Parkinson’s disease.

Mike said: “It just dawned on me that I was cycling across the Alps in 10 days and had not really started fundraising yet, so I thought I would put out this video for Cure Parkinson’s.

“We started with the Ray Pirani four years ago from the west coast to the east coast of the southernmost towns in France.

“This time we are doing the Red Alps, so we start at Lake Geneva and we are on our way to Nice across the Alps.

“It’s 770 km which I think is the total we do and we go quite a bit two and a bit over Everest.

“18 000 meters of climbing, I think what if a 100 kg man does not sit really well with me.”

The former English rugby player asked his followers to donate and “pray for me”.

“There are a lot of drugs out there that we are very hopeful about and if you want to know anything else go to the Cure Parkinson website.

“We are at the forefront of research and bring together research from around the world so that any support you can give will be greatly appreciated.

“Please donate, please help. I’m sure I’ll have to pick up.

“I will try to report as many times as I can when we are on the ride, but any donations will be greatly appreciated.

“We are trying to find the medicine, unfortunately the medicine and clinical trials cost money, but please give generously and pray for me.”

Mike’s post led to a series of comments from other Instagram users who wished him well.

One with the username pawpower35 remarked, “Good luck, my Dad died of MSA, a form of Parkinson’s plus, it’s a terrible terrible disease.”

Another, gorman_irish, wrote: “Well done and thank you. Donation in honor of my Dad who had it when there were not many drugs.”

A third, debbie5418gram, said: “Good luck Mike will not be easy, but you will probably all do well and raise a lot of funds to help with Parkinson’s disease.”
