***Warning: Contains spoilers for the latest episode of Better Call Saul.***
You better call Saul has returned for part two of its sixth and final season, and it has returned with an all-powerful bang. Several even. Literal.
After part one ended With Lalo Salamanca’s (Tony Dalton) brutal execution of Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian), viewers were eager to return to ABQ.
In the new episode, Lalo jumps at the chance to investigate Gus’ laundromat. Once there, Lalo forces Gus (at gunpoint) and camera point) to provide a video tour of the underground methlab site.
However, Gus jumps into a trap. Using a gun he had left there, he cuts out the lights and fires in the dark. When the lights come on, Lalo is the one who bleeds.
Speak with Weekly entertainmentLalo’s actor, Tony Dalton, who played the drug lord for three seasons, explained how Lalo’s death went.
“I got a call during the height of the pandemic, before they started filming,” he explained. “It was kind of a death call.”
He continued: “We were filming the episode before that…I got to the… [death] episode, and I got a seat and I took [the script] from’.
Lalo is then buried next to Howard, under the floor where Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) will eventually work for Gus.
Dalton went on to explain that he knew his character was going to die, but was shocked to find out that Lalo would eventually be buried under one of Breaking Bad’s most famous sets: the meth lab itself.
Before dying, Lalo laughs as he chokes on his own blood, and Dalton explained why.
‘What [the writers] wrote in the script was that Lalo is breathing his last ugly breath… So when we filmed it, I thought, “I’m going to show you ugly, man.”‘
Tony went on to say that after filming the death scene, writer Gordon Smith approached him to say his new interpretation of the script was better than what was written on the page.
