Qualcomm teases next-generation wearable platform Snapdragon

A new teaser has been posted on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Twitter handle, featuring a look at the next generation of portable SoCs that are “coming soon”.

The most recent Snapdragon Wear 4100+ is built on the 12nm process and includes a new co-processor to handle more background tasks such as sensor input and sound. This SoC brought performance and battery improvements compared to the Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform

We are curious what kind of improvements the next Snapdragon Wear Platform will have. We expect something more along the lines of Samsung’s Exynos W920 (5nm) SoC, but it’s hard to predict Qualcomm’s next move with wearables. Given Google’s renewed focus on Wear OS, it may be something that will move the platform forward, as many Wear OS devices before version 3.0 are powered by Snapdragon Wear platforms.

All we know is that a new wearable chip from Qualcomm is coming. We don’t know which OEMs will be using it, when it will hit the market, nor the specs — not until Qualcomm makes its official announcement soon.
