Russian, Ukrainian and Turkish military delegations will meet UN officials in Istanbul today to discuss a possible deal to resume grain exports from the Black Sea.
“We are indeed working hard, but there is still a way to go,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told reporters on Tuesday. “A lot of people are talking about it. We prefer to try it out.”
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has brought exports to a standstill, leaving dozens of ships stranded and more than 20 million tons of grain trapped in silos near Odessa.
The coming harvest is also in danger, because Ukraine now has a shortage of storage space due to the shutdown.
