Dave Chappelle’s Netflix Comedy The closer is once again at the center of controversy, as the show has received two Emmy nominations.

The 48-year-old comedian was accused of transphobia for mentioning ‘gender is a fact’ on his show while supporting JK Rowling and say he’s “Team Terf,” the acronym for trans-exclusionary radical feminist.

Many urged the streaming service to pull the special, featuring the likes of Elliot Page and Dan Levy express support for employees who organized a strike over the controversy.

While fans expressed outrage at the shocking snubs, some were “dismayed” to learn that Chapelle’s one-off show had been nominated for an extraordinary variety special.

“Oh, so Dave Chappelle was immediately canceled for an Emmy nomination,” one person tweeted.

“Actually, these were some of the most exciting Emmy nominations in years and then…they nominated Dave Chappelle, whatever,” added another.

Last year, Chappelle further suggested that the alleged backlash was due to: ‘corporate interests’‘ and said members of the LGBTQ+ community he knows have supported him.

“I want everyone in this audience to know that while the media is framing it that it’s me versus that community, that’s not what it is,” he said.

“Don’t blame the LGBTQ community for this. It’s about corporate interests, and what I can say, and what I can’t say.

“For the record, and I want you to know this, everyone I know from that community is nice and supportive, so I don’t know what this nonsense is about.”

Videos of it circulated in May Chappelle is attacked on stage before actor and comedian Jamie Foxx helped him to his feet.

Chappelle went on with the show and later told the audience, “I don’t know if that was part of the show or… I grabbed the back of that nigger’s head, his hair was spongy, absorbent.”

He then thanked Foxx for rushing to help him and said, “Listen, I just want to say I had an incredible time. This man is a genius, we must protect him at all times, man. This is what matters.

“To every comedian who comes here, this means everything. You’re a genius, you’re a legend, I had a great time and we won’t let anything happen to you.’
