A popular paddling pool was closed in the blistering heat after people used it to clean themselves.

A group of travelers were seen using the water features in Eastleigh’s Fleming Park to wash themselves.

It came after 30-35 caravans and vehicles camped without permission at a nearby encampment Monday night.

Eastleigh Borough Council said they had closed the paddling pool with immediate effect and would not open until the group had moved on.

“Council officials have already visited the encampment (Tuesday, July 12) to ask travelers to leave the site and we continue to monitor the situation,” a statement said.

This morning it was revealed that the police had used Section 61 powers to ask them to leave the area.

The pool is now open again after being drained, cleaned, topped up and water quality tested.

The Council said it had followed its ‘normal procedure’ for dealing with unauthorized camps, as can be seen on its website

Anyone traveling is requested to contact the municipality to request a parking space.

The costs usually include pitch fees, council tax and utilities such as water.
