A man has been charged with the murder of mother of two Lisa Thompson, who was found stabbed to death in her Dublin home.
rian McHugh, 37, was remanded in custody when he appeared in Dublin court today on charges of murdering the former youth worker in May.
Mr McHugh, with an address in Cairn Court, Ballymun, is charged with the murder of Mrs Thompson (52) at her home in Sandyhill Gardens, Ballymun on 10 May.
Detective Garda Nicola Duffy told Judge Treasa Kelly that she has charged the accused in court today and he did not respond after caution.
Mr McHugh was given a copy of the charge sheet, Det Gda Duffy said.
The judge said the court was not fit for murder bail and no petition was filed.
Defense attorney John Quinn said clearance was granted for the accused’s remand and requested Mr McHugh’s next appearance, at Cloverhill District Court, via video link.
Mr. Quinn also requested free legal aid by filing a statement of his client’s assets with the court. The judge granted legal aid after learning that Mr McHugh was unemployed but receiving no social security benefits and had “no income of any kind”.
The suspect has been placed in pre-trial detention until July 20. Dressed in a gray tracksuit with black stripes, the suspect sat in the dock during the short hearing and drank from a bottle of water.
He was not required to go to court and has not yet indicated how he intends to plead the charges.
Ms Thompson was last seen two days before her body was found on the afternoon of May 10.
A woman also arrested under gardaĆ’s investigation has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
A concerned neighbor had raised the alarm just after 3:00 p.m. that day by calling 999 and looking for an ambulance. When paramedics arrived at the house, they called gardaĆ.
It is believed that Mrs. Thompson’s body was in her home for some time before it was discovered.
She was discovered with multiple injuries, including stab wounds.
