Meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said: “We are looking at an extended period of warm weather and very hot nights.
“It’s likely we’ll see some areas, especially more urban areas in the south that stay above 20C, so we can see some tropical nights.
“Where we have the extreme heat warning, as well as the high temperatures during the day, it will likely be warm at night, causing sleeping problems.
“It doesn’t look like it’s going to be just one night, it’s the cumulative effect of a few uncomfortable nights in a row that no one will enjoy.”
The hot weather is expected to put a lot of pressure on the NHS. dr. Layla McCay, policy director at the NHS Confederation, tells LBC that “the ambulance sector needs all the support it can get right now”.
