Xiaomi 12T leaks, can fix where Xiaomi 12 went wrong

TL;DR

  • A new leak has detailed the alleged Xiaomi 12T.
  • The new phone will apparently offer an improved flagship SoC and faster charging.

Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 12 series globally earlier this year, with the Xiaomi 12 featuring both a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and a 67W charger. However, it looks like the company is working on a device that could raise the bar in these areas.

Frequent tipster Mukul Sharma has tweeted that Xiaomi is working on a device that is tentatively called the Xiaomi 12T. And it’s said to pack a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset and 120W charging, both of which are significant upgrades over the Xiaomi 12. Check out a screenshot of the tweet below.

The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 in particular is arguably the most notable mid-year refresh we’ve seen from Qualcomm so far. The Plus SoC offers a 10% boost to CPU and GPU clock speeds, a claimed 30% efficiency improvement, and a 20% performance-per-watt gain.

Fast charging to get even faster?

Xiaomi’s supposed upgrade to 120W charging is also quite remarkable, though 67W speeds already deliver charging times of less than an hour. We also conducted a poll earlier this year which showed that most of the readers surveyed considered 65W charging to be their sweet spot (28.78%), with the 45W and 25W speeds also gaining many fans. In comparison, respondents who wanted to charge 80W+ accounted for only ~17% of the vote.

Other notable specs Sharma shares include 8 GB of RAM (with 12 GB possible), 128 GB or 256 GB of storage, a 120 Hz AMOLED display, NFC, OIS for the unspecified main camera, and MIUI 13 on top of Android 12.

There’s no word on other specs yet, but it sure sounds like the Xiaomi 12T will deliver a decent power upgrade and massive efficiency upgrade over the Xiaomi 12. We hope we see a similar compact form factor to the current model.
