Oppo Reno7/F21 Pro review – GSMArena.com tests

Introduction

A non-exhaustive list of the devices in the Oppo Reno7 family in our database includes: 7 models and to distinguish them requires a deliberate effort. This one we have for you today, with the most vanilla names, is the actual Reno7.

There are no other nicknames and the absence of 5G in the title doesn’t imply next-generation connectivity – which is indeed the case. The Reno7 Lite is 5G compatible despite its lite name, but other than that it shares most of its DNA with this 4G handset. Speaking of family ties, essentially the same device as the Reno7 is sold in India under the F21 Pro moniker, so our findings here should apply to that device as well. Just be careful not to confuse it with the F21 Pro 5G – the Reno7 Lite’s other alias. If we manage to clear things up – great, if not – we can easily shift the blame onto Oppo.

The Reno7’s specs don’t sound too exciting, but it’s still pretty well equipped. You get a 90Hz OLED screen, 8GB RAM and at least 128GB storage, while the Snapdragon 680 should be powerful enough even if it lacks 4K recording.

But perhaps more remarkable, the camera experience is the omission of an ultra-wide unit, although a dedicated ‘microscope’ camera, complete with a ring light, could make up for it. The main camera is 64 MP, which is normal, and the 32 MP selfie shooter is also a popular choice.

We like that the Reno7 runs Android 12 – most of the other non-flagship Oppos/Realmes we’ve had this year were still on Android 11, even though the ColorOS overlay was at 12. The 4,500 mAh battery sounds like a suitable companion to the 6.43-inch screen and 6nm chipset, and the 33W charge should deliver pretty fast recharges, although speed record-breaking isn’t on the table.

Unpacking Oppo Reno7

Our Reno7 review unit arrived in phone condition only – sometimes we get a case full of accessories, sometimes it is. But retail Reno7s come with a 33W adapter to match the phone’s specs, as well as a matching cable. A protective cover is also included.
