After weeks of waiting, the time had finally come Love Island – the moment Luca Bis referred to the fact that Michael Owen is Gemma Owen‘s father, that is.
When this year’s series kicked off, fans speculated about how long it would last for Gemma to reveal her soccer star dad for the rest of the islanders.
It was later revealed by dumped contestant Ikenna Ekwonna that: those in the villa were well aware of her famous fatherdespite mentions of being extremely scarce.
On tonight’s episode, Luca and Gemma set out on their very first date, enjoying a romantic drink overlooking the beautiful ocean.
During their conversation, where they both opened up about their feelings for each other, Gemma told Luca that she believes he will get on well with her family, and even shares the same sense of humor as former England player Michael.
Luca then joked, “I might as well kick a ball as he does,” and now we have to watch Luca and Michael play in the yard.
Love Island fans across the country breathed a huge sigh of relief that Michael had finally dropped into the conversation, as it was a very – VERY – long time coming.
“Luca drops he knows Michael Owen is her dad,” one person tweeted in amazement, while another wrote: “Wait, I’m just now realizing that Luca said he wished he could hit a ball as well kick like Michael Owen.”
Someone else pointed out that, of course, Luca won’t be aware that when it comes time for the meet-the-parent episode, Michael has already revealed that he won’t be attending.
“My wife will do that duty. I will represent the horses and she will represent the daughter,” said the former Manchester United star.
“I don’t know what Box To Box will give me. But I know what I’m going to get from my daughter.
“I’ve fathered her for 19 years, so I’m pretty sure what I’m going to get from her.”
During their date, while some viewers might have expected Luca to ask Gemma to be his girlfriend, he actually revealed why he’s holding back from making their relationship official.
Gemma explained that when it comes to her mother Louise Bonsall, she doesn’t stand a chance if she doesn’t like potential suitors.
Therefore, Luca waits until he has her mother’s approval before asking Gemma to be his girlfriend. But it sounds like that’s exactly where their relationship is headed.
Love Island returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
