Can Carl Pay do it again?
I had time to reflect on the design of the shining Nothing Phone 1. It’s a divisive device, to say the least.But my Android Authority Colleague Dhruv Bhutani argues that this may not be a feature of the phone.
- Instead, it’s probably the proven wisdom of OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei.
- With the OnePlus playbook in your arms and nothing at your feet, Pei can use his imagination without being bound by Oppo’s limits.
- This unleashed allow Pay to target the audience’s “TikTok generation” and “hype” through innovative design and savvy marketing.
It’s not just guerrilla marketing:
- Pei’s strength is to get people to talk, but the first glimpse of Nothing Phone 1 shows that it wasn’t just designed for design.
- A “glyph” is a series of LEDs on the back of a phone that combines important visual characteristics with a smart notification light.
- Pei also mentions “the ability to create an ecosystem of interconnected devices and allow phones to interact with connected peripherals manufactured by other manufacturers.”
- Overall, it is expected to build a company with a broader ecosystem of AIOT devices.
What’s next:
- Is this enough to ensure success?
- Phone 1 certainly stands out, but the market performance of the phone is more than a smart design and a charismatic leader.
- Pei and his team need to focus on the basics, from launch to post-sales support.
- Like the first OnePlus product, Pei needs to focus on price and value.
- But Pay gave the company the best chance to succeed.
- Let’s wait and see how it works.
